Title

Working as a software developer in a Loan Servicing Company

Question

Assalam o Alaikum,

I would like to know whether it is permissible to work as a software developer in Loan servicing company called cenlar https://www.cenlar.com/ .  I avoided working in financial domain due to ambiguity in the past, but this time I am out of job approx 2 months and due to visa restrcitions I cannot work somewhere else. Is it permissible for me to take this job with the intention of chaning it as soon as I get another one.

I don't have the job duties of my role and I am not sure if it involves interest based transaction handling, but as a senior developer I may have to work on different parts of the solution.

As far as I understand the company took percentage from each transaction for administering and managing loan. To me it looks like it fall into assisting in sin category, but I am not sure.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

You state that you do not know your job description of Cenlar. You also state that you do not have a source of income.

If you do not have any other source of Halal income even besides the IT sector and you have to support yourself and your dependents, then you may accept this job at Cenlar. Once you have another source of Halal income, you should leave Cenlar if your job description is directly assisting in sin.
